Bangkok Dangerous movie review: Joe is a professional hit man who picks someone off the street to do his errands, and after he is finished kills that person. His next assignment takes him to Bangkok, and as usual, he finds a street-wise guy named Kong to help him. After Kong has a close call and learns who Joe is, Kong asks him to train him and he does. Joe also meets a local girl who is deaf and spends time with her. However, Joe has a hard time keeping his other life from her. It also appears that the person who hired Joe, breaks his rule of complete anonymity and tries to find him.
Skip it: Sporting a Tom-Hanks-in-“Da Vinci Code” hairstyle and showcasing his preferred acting style of “drowsy,” Cage doesn’t seem tough or cool enough to be a shoe salesman much less a hitman. While the movie doesn’t glamorize murder like “Wanted,” “Bangkok” doesn’t exactly mind it either. Hey, if the guy deserves it!
Catch it: If you’re jealous that Joe and Kong get to use watermelons for target practice. The best assassins prefer their victims juicy and seedless.
Bottom line: There’s some decent local scenery, but minimal, muddy-looking action means “Bangkok” might be the dreariest Cage flick since “The Weather Man.” “Book of Secrets” and “The Wicker Man” don’t make any sense, but at least they’re not boring. Source: Metromix
Box Office: Bangkok The film has grossed $15,298,133 domestically and $25,434,817 abroad, adding up to a worldwide gross of $40,732,950. However, the film grossed $7.8 million on its opening weekend making this the first film since Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star to debut at number 1 with such a low gross. Lionsgate distribution topper Steve Rothenberg said, "It will be a nicely profitable film for us".
